E&M Technologies, Inc. is currently seeking a Lead Senior Software Developer to join our team in Colorado Springs, CO in support of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). NORAD is a United States and Canada bi-national organization charged with the missions of aerospace warning, aerospace control and maritime warning for North America. Aerospace warning includes the detection, validation, and warning of attack against North America whether by aircraft, missiles, or space vehicles, through mutual support arrangements with other command.

Job Responsibilities

The Lead Senior Software Developer will be responsible for developing and maintaining sophisticated engineering computer programs and playing a key role in shaping the direction of our software initiatives. Tasks will encompass hands-on coding, rigorous testing, seamless installation, and continuous maintenance of complex programs featuring multi-functional capabilities, critical constraints, and elaborate input/output. In addition to these technical responsibilities, provides strategic oversight, mentoring and leading a high-performing team, collaborating with cross-functional partners, managing project timelines, and ensuring that software development aligns seamlessly with organizational goals. 

Typical Duties Include: 

  • Develops computer program documentation and operational procedures.  
  • Prepares project resource estimates, schedules, and cost analysis.  
  • Provides diagnostic support to correct processing anomalies in complex computer programs.  
  • Assists in the preparation of specifications and other activities that require knowledge of programming principles and techniques.  
  • Interprets requirements and performs analysis to ensure that objectives are met.  
  • Assists in the training of less experienced personnel.  
  • Support Agile team(s) in development and implementation of software components for NISSC II Products.  
  • Attend and participate in Periodic Large Scale Agile Planning events.  
  • Attend and participate in standard Agile ritual meetings (Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Backlog Grooming, Sprint Reviews and Retrospectives).  
  • Manage resources across agile and waterfall environments, ensuring utilization while accounting for individual project needs. 
  • Enforce, maintain, and update coding standards and best practices to ensure overall quality and maintainability of our products. 
  • Maintain and update internal work processes and procedures. 
  • Provide immediate support for urgent or critical defects to minimize disruption and ensure the timely resolution of issues. 
  • Maintain and manage work tracking tools (ex. Jira) to ensure the accurate collection and analysis of quality metrics. 
  • Supervise software Subject Matter Expert (SME) plans. Track and manage the learning plans and those assigned to teach and learn. 
  • Conduct thorough performance evaluations, providing constructive feedback and recognition to team members while identifying opportunities for growth and development. 
  • Manage timecard approvals and corrections with attention to detail, ensuring accuracy, and compliance in our time-tracking and reporting processes. 
  • Coordinate with leaders behind other software and infrastructure deliveries to ensure integration is as seamless as possible. 
  • Update and review documentation, ensuring that technical specifications, design documents, and other artifacts are comprehensive, accurate, and accessible. 
  • Offer technical guidance to leadership for informed decision-making, drawing on your expertise and insights to evaluate options, mitigate risks, and optimize outcomes at a contract-wide level. 
  • Perform code reviews, conducting thorough assessments of code quality, adherence to standards, and potential vulnerabilities. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Electrical Engineer and a minimum of 12 years of software engineering/development. 
  • 6 years of experience working in a management or leadership role. 
  • Experience designing, implementing, and sustaining complex software applications. 
  • Experience developing technical solutions to meet defined requirements. 
  • Detailed understanding of the Java programming language. 
  • Experience developing microservices using Java Spring Boot and Spring Cloud. 
  • Experience performing Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) within a DevSecOps pipeline. 
  • Experience writing event-driven applications utilizing a messaging service. 
  • Detailed understanding of the REST API. 
  • Experience developing Java build scripts using Maven and/or Gradle. 
  • Experience utilizing Static Code Analysis (SCA) tools and adjudicating vulnerabilities. 
  • Experience using JPA for object persistence. 
  • Experience developing application front-ends using Angular JS or other JavaScript-based web frameworks. 
  • Detailed understanding of Docker containers and Kubernetes. 
  • Detail oriented. 
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen. 
  • Must have and be capable of maintaining a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance at the required level. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading small software development teams. 
  • Experience mentoring junior software developers. 
  • Experience working with Apache Kafka. 
  • High-level understanding of DoD Platform 1. 
  • Experience migrating monolithic applications to a microservices architecture. 
  • Experience in Test Driven Development and Continuous Integration Environments. 
  • Experience working within a VMware Tanzu environment. 
  • Experience working with DAST (Dynamic Application Security Testing) tools. 
  • Experience working on CCIC2S applications. 
  • Experience working within an Agile development team.
